Chabot Football Preview 2008

By Idorenyin Uto-Uko

Last year was a disappointing year for the Chabot Gladiator football team. The year ended with many narrow losses and a lot of key players on injured reserve. But, look for many of last year's players to make positive contributions in 2008.

According to www.jcfootball.com, "Chabot football has strength up front on offense and a boat load of talented linebackers that make Chabot a team on the rise." Many of those talented linemen showcased their talents at this summer's NorCal Community College Combine hosted by Chabot. Of the over twenty community colleges that participated in the summer long event, Chabot had one of the top displays of athleticism throughout.

The combine measured players' forty-yard dash time, vertical leap, and bench press. Many Chabot players showed perseverance and stamina throughout the competition and were honored with an "all-star" accolade for their performances. They included: Lance Harrison, Javon Williams, Terrill Vinson, Chris Coatney, Sipili Tuigamala, Sifa Etu, Tiquan Payne, Anthony Ragsdale, and Shawn Sweet.

If the combine player accolades and summer training are any indication of the coming season, look for the Chabot Gladiators to be on top of the Coast Conference League and Northern California rankings in 2008.
