Local student selected for Leadership University
Submitted By Joe Jubilado
Michael Jubilado, a student at American High School, was selected to attend the 2008 Leadership University, sponsored by LeadAmerica, at Stanford University in Palo Alto. The Leadership University is a college-accredited invitational leadership program for academically talented and promising young leaders from across the United States and internationally. Exceptional high school students with a record of academic achievement and extracurricular or community involvement, are invited to participate.
Leadership University is an intensive leadership development conference for teens who want to challenge themselves to excel and realize their full potential. In a hands-on learning environment, Michael Jubilado and fellow students faced real-life situations in which they learned specific and tangible leadership skills, such as team building, collaboration, negotiation, creative thinking and problem solving.
"I enjoyed experiencing the adventures throughout San Francisco with new friends from different parts of the country," said Michael. "The conference helped me realize how to set higher levels of my goal towards being a college athlete and eventually sport therapist. Leadership University taught me that what you may think is impossible is possible. The new skills I have learned will help me through my college career and when I have my own business. I have been fortunate in being able to participate in elite football training 'invitationals,' which have enhanced my athletic skills. (Leadership University) gave me the training to bring my leadership skills to another level. Leadership University definitely was an experience of a lifetime."
Leadership University was held on the campus of Stanford University on July 22 to 27 and other leading colleges. Further information on LeadAmerica and Leadership University can be found at www.leadamerica.org or by calling (866) 394-5323).
