A Hot August Day
Senior Auto Show comes to Union City
By Ethan Chou
Although our world is constantly developing more powerful and efficient modes of transportation, once a year, the senior citizens of Union City bring back the "good ol' days" of the automobile.
On August 9th, the Senior Program at the Ruggieri Senior Center in Union City is holding its 8th Annual Senior "Hot August Day" Auto Show. From 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., come to the center and enjoy the wide variety of cars and trucks that will be on display.
Avid car enthusiasts from the center have amassed a collection of 40 or 45 vehicles from America's history, and restored them to their original luster and sleekness. Everything from antiques from the 1930s to hot rods to custom-made cars will be present, as their proud owners show off these incredible automobiles rarely available for public viewing.
Attracting visitors from throughout the Tri-City area and beyond, due to the Senior Center's convenient location nearby James Logan High School, this annual event has always been a great success. Hundreds of visitors come every year, both to view the wide array of classic cars and to help support the Senior Center. A fundraiser barbeque serving hamburgers and hot dogs will be available, as will other refreshments for a small donation.
Enjoy a day perfect for history buffs, car aficionados, and the entire family. If you would like to bring your own vehicle to display or have any questions, call (510) 675-5495 for more information.
