Little League Minors playing at Niles-Centerville

Niles-Centerville Little League, on the campus of Vallejo Mill Elementary School, has been the site for the 2008 Division 2 (NorCal) Tournament for Little League Minor play (ages 10-11) since Saturday, July 26. The winner of this double elimination Little League tournament will be crowned Northern California Champions for 2008 Little League 10-11 Minors. This is as far as this age group can advance in Little League tournament action. The Division Tournament includes the winners of six NorCal Section tournaments played over the past couple of weeks.

The participants in this year's Division Tournament are: Section 1, Albany from the North Bay; Section 2, West Redding from Northern California; Section 3, Danville, which is the section teams from Fremont, Hayward and the Tri-Cities participated; Section 4, Tri-City of Rocklin, Sacramento area; Section 5, Saratoga, which is Milpitas Little Leagues' Section; and Section 6, Morada of Stockton, the San Joaquin area.

In first-round action on Saturday, July 26, Saratoga defeated West Redding, 5-4, while Morada was victorious over Tri-City, 6-2. On Sunday, July 27, Albany defeated Danville, 13-9, and Saratoga won over Morada, 8-4. Play continued on Monday, July 28, with loser's bracket action: West Redding battled Tri-City with the winner advancing to play Danville on Tuesday, July 29. Losers of Monday and Tuesday's games were eliminated, with the winner set to take on Morada, Thursday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. at Vallejo Mill, for the right to advance to the Friday, August 1, semi-final at 5:30 p.m. Results of games played on Monday and Tuesday were unavailable at press time.

Winners' bracket action will face-off Albany vs. Saratoga on Wednesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m., with the loser playing in the Friday, August 1, semi-final contest. Saturday, August 2 will be the championship game between the winner of Albany-Saratoga and the loser's bracket survivor at 10 a.m. at Vallejo Mill. Should the undefeated team lose Saturday morning, a "what if," winner-take-all game will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 3. Come out and watch these young players strut their stuff. Admission is Free!
