Submitted By Ann Millican
The Thomas J. Long Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant for general operating support to the Fremont Symphony Orchestra for its 2008-2009 Season. This is the first grant that the Fremont Symphony has received from The Thomas J. Long Foundation. Established in 1972, The Thomas J. Long Foundation has a 36 year tradition of grant making. The foundation carries the name of Thomas J. Long, who co-founded the Longs Drug Stores chain in Oakland, California with his brother Joseph in 1938.
Fremont Symphony Board Vice President Jean Louie was thrilled with the news, "We are very pleased to announce our new foundation partnership with the esteemed Thomas J. Long Foundation. This generous grant helps us bring an exceptional season of classical music to our community."
Fremont Symphony Orchestra programs include evening concerts, the holiday Nutcracker Ballet, free annual Children's Concerts, the Young Artist Competition and In-School Music Ensembles, as well as serving as the orchestra for Fremont Opera. The orchestra brings classical music to over 8,500 adults and youth in southern Alameda County and northern Santa Clara County. Information about the Fremont Symphony Orchestra and its upcoming 2008-2009 season is available by calling (510) 794-1659 or visiting the website www.fremontsymphony.org.
