Submitted By Alicia Jones
The award winning StarStruck Theatre continues its season with the Broadway extravaganza, 42nd Street. This production will delight the entire family with its eye-popping choreography, elaborate sets and costumes, and a knock-out score written by Harry Warren and Al Dubin. The winner of the 1980 Tony Award for "Best New Musical" and the 2001 Tony Award for "Best Revival of a Musical," 42nd Street will be tapping its way onto the indoor Jackson Theatre stage at Ohlone College August 1-16. 42nd Street tells the story of a starry-eyed chorus girl, Peggy Sawyer, and her goal of making it big on Broadway. Julian Marsh, the Great White Way's most brilliant director, is preparing his biggest show yet, Pretty Lady, in the depths of the Great Depression. When the leading lady breaks her ankle on opening night, the young chorus girl is sent in to save the show. 42nd Street is a big, bold musical that celebrates the stuff that dreams are made of. With songs such as, "We're In the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," "Shuffle off to Buffalo," and "42nd Street," it is a musical for people who love musicals! Performances are opening night, Friday, August 1 at 8 p.m., continuing Thursday through Saturday evenings, August 2 - 16 at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. A special ASL interpreted performance will be on Saturday, August 16 at 2 p.m. Reserved seating prices are: $22/Adults, $20/Seniors & Students, $18/ Children 12 & under.
