Niles-Centerville Little League won the 2008 CA District 14 Senior All Star Championship with a 14-1 victory over Fremont American Little League. The Niles boys came out crushing the ball, and starting pitcher Athen Sinodinos held Fremont American to only two hits.
The first inning couldn't get any sweeter: it was three up and three down for both teams. Then, at the top of the second Niles came out and with a vengeance. Alex Celeya put up the first run of the game with a base hit to score Robert Higares. Celeya doubled later in the inning for his second RBI of the game. Niles would score 9 more runs in the inning courtesy of Austin Guttery with 2 RBI's, Cody Lebon with 1 RBI, Casey Jennings with 2 RBI's, Higares got 2 RBI's with a double and Kainoa Cabus with 1 RBI. It only got sweeter from there.
In the third inning, Phillip Rugani would hit a double to add two more runs on the board. Spencer Romero wanted a piece of the action. He singled for an RBI as well. In the fifth and last inning Jay Haak started it off with a double and Sinodinos followed suit to score Haak for the last run of the game.
Stellar pitching by Sinodinos and a solid Niles defense helped with the win. Sinodinos had 5 K's and only walked two batters. Fremont American got their first hit in the 3rd inning but not without the strong effort by Austin Guttery trying to make a diving catch to only miss it by inches. Fremont also received one more hit in the in 5th.
NCLL defeated MSJLL 7-3 in their opening game, and crushed Warm Springs 20-2 to make it to the final round where they claimed the Senior Title. Niles out-scored their opponents 41 to 6.
