Art in a storybook setting
Regan's Nursery to host an "art-in-action" weekend
By Aditya Anand
In the arts, location can arguably influence creation. For instance, in classic literature, the setting of a story often influences the moods and motives of characters in the novel. Similarly, a painter's studio or place of work may influence the mood, subject, or even the interpretation of their creations. It is, perhaps, for this reason that Fremont Art Association has once again teamed up with Regan's Nursery to provide an art-in-action weekend in an enchanting setting among blossoming flowers, soft music, and gently splashing fountains.
This year, 16 artists will be drawing, painting, creating jewelry, and exhibiting ceramic pieces, textile art, and photography on the grounds of Regan's Nursery in Fremont. The art-in-action weekend, scheduled to take place July 19 and 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be open to the community with artwork on sale. Canopies, shade covers, and balloons will be set up among the flowers to provide a comfortable setting for visitors as they watch artists at work.
The Fremont Art Association views the weekend event as an opportunity for the community to become more involved in the arts. As an additional incentive, artists of the Fremont Art Association will also donate 20 percent of the proceeds of all artwork sold at Regan's (or a minimum of $200) to the Cultural Arts in Schools program. Funds raised will be used to support after-school visual arts programs in public schools. As an organization of artists concerned about "the lack of visual art taught in our public schools today" the Fremont Art Association is excited to promote art education for local students.
The art-in-action weekend will be more than just a viewing experience for younger visitors. Fun clay projects are scheduled throughout the day to spark their interest in the arts.
Regan's Nursery, a storybook setting for the event, is located at 4268 Decoto Road in Fremont. Look for colorful balloons bouncing in the breeze near the entrance gate. Don't miss this opportunity to see art in action.
