Deja vu all over again?
In 1959, Union City incorporated and California beat the Chicago White Sox in a World Series upset.
On Sunday, August 17, local residents can score a nostalgic double play at the Oakland Coliseum when the home team takes on the Sox during "Union City Day at the A's." Every ticket sold will raise funds for Union City's 50th anniversary celebration.
The day's grand slam will include:
On first base, the tailgate party. Ticket price includes admittance to a pre-game BBQ hosted by Texas Roadhouse beginning at 11 a.m.
Second, free retro commemorative baseball jerseys will be handed out to the first 10,000 attendees at the game.
At third, catch the exciting contest between the Oakland A's and the Chicago White Sox at 1:05 p.m.
Bringing it home, kids can go out to the field and run the bases after the game.
If that weren't enough, proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Union City's year-long 50th anniversary celebration in 2009.
So, roll back the clock and take yourself out to the ballpark for an old-fashioned day of All-American fun and camaraderie. Tickets, company sponsorships and more information are available at www.unioncity50.com or by calling 510-675-5420.
