Interested in the mixed media collage art? If so, join the Fremont Art Association (FAA) in welcoming July Guest Artist Michael Azgour on Wednesday, July 2 at 7 p.m.
Azgour will provide a brief history of collage as artwork in the 20th century and present his recently completed collage works from 2007-08, before demonstrating a 2D Collage. He will also demonstrate masking techniques, incorporating stencils and screens into collage art. Masking allows for hard edges using masking tape, while the use of stencils and screens create forms and patterns.
In order to apply the techniques presented, the following materials are necessary: wooden surfaces (can be substituted with canvas panel or other firm surface); acrylic paint; matte medium (for priming surfaces, adhering collage, texture and consistency of acrylic paint; other acrylic mediums are ok); Two Dimensional Collage Materials: paper, fabric, photographs, text, found and printed materials, etc.; Dry Media: charcoal, lead, ink, soft pastel, oil pastel, colored pencils, markers, etc.; Tools: brushes, palette knives, palette, plastic paint containers, masking tape, x-acto knife and blades (e.g., model #11), straightedge, cutting mat, screens, stencils, burnishers, ink quills.
Michael Azgour is a fine artist who specializes in abstract-figurative painting and mixed media collage. He was born and raised in California and currently lives and works in San Francisco. He received his M.F.A. degree in Studio Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He currently teaches figurative drawing and abstract painting at Palo Alto Art Center and expressive drawing and mixed media and collage at Pacific Art League in Palo Alto. He is also a review committee member for the graduate school at the Academy of Art University. Azgour paints prolifically and exhibits his work often. He has shown his work throughout the United States and abroad.
