Auditions for "Sugar"!

Sugar is based on the hilarious film, "Some Like It Hot" in which two down-on-their-luck musicians, Joe and Jerry, by chance witness the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. To hide from the mob who wants to rub out the hapless witnesses, our boys disguise themselves as female musicians and join an all-girl band headed for Florida. From that point on, it's non-stop laughs, music, dancing, and wonderful songs!

Directed by David Sikula. Performances will be weekends from September 5 through 20. The role of "Spats" has been pre-cast - all other roles are open. Stage 1 is committed to non-traditional casting. There is no pay, and it is a non-equity theatre. No appointments are necessary. For more information, call (510) 791-0287. Download Audition forms at

Please prepare one traditional Broadway song (not from Sugar). Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to learn a short dance routine. No readings until callbacks. There are two principal male parts and one principal female part. There are three male supporting roles and one female supporting role. The ensemble consists of 7-10 men (gangsters, musicians, millionaires, and various small parts) and 7-10 women (musicians for Sweet Sue band. Must be able to fake playing an instrument). Tappers a plus!

Call-backs will be at the theater on Saturday, June 21 (time TBD).
