June 4, 2008 > Wine and Roses - Fremont Opera's Spring Celebration Wine and Roses - Fremont Opera's Spring Celebration Submitted By David Sloss Venture to Wine and Roses, an elegant garden party at the spectacular hilltop home of Dr. Gene and Barbara Barrie, benefiting Fremont Opera. There will be 200 varieties of blooming roses! Wine tasting by the best of the Livermore Valley boutique wineries! Tapas, music, silent and live auctions! On Sunday, June 8, opera supporters and wine lovers will convene at the spectacular hilltop home of Dr. Gene and Barbara Barrie to enjoy all of these and more, at Fremont Opera's Wine & Roses celebration. Participating wineries will include Crooked Vine Winery, Ruby Hill Winery, Steven Kent Winery, and Page Mill Winery. Guests will enjoy delicious tapas with the wine, as they stroll through the Barrie's wonderful rose gardens and admire the stunning views of the Bay and the hills. Auctioneer Frank Bizzarro, whose work with hundreds of non-profit organizations since 1984 has been featured in national magazines and on television, will preside over an exciting live auction. Featured items will include a ten-day Alaska cruise sailing from San Francisco, "An Evening with the Winemaker" (private party and tasting at Westover Vineyards), "Lease a C-class or E-class Mercedes", a Las Vegas Vacation at Bellagio Hotel, 3rd row center aisle seats at San Francisco Opera, numerous exciting collections of wine, and much more. Proceeds from Wine & Roses will support Fremont Opera's summer production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville. Two performances of the opera will be given at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts at Ohlone College, on August 22nd and 24th. The full Fremont Symphony will participate. David Sloss will conduct, and Stage Director Jonathon Field returns to repeat last year's success with Fremont Opera's inaugural production of La Boh¸me.
