Newark High's Spring Concert
The Newark Memorial High School (NMHS) Instrumental Music Department will be holding its annual Spring Concert on Friday, June 6, in the high school theatre. With a new and revised format, this concert will be different from regular school concerts; the first half will be a "variety show" format, featuring students from all instrumental music classes. The "Advanced Band" in concert will be featured in the second half. Mr. Audie Tatum, the new instrumental music teacher and director of this event says there will be something to suit everyone's fancy including jazz, rock, and concert band selections.
Awards that the Instrumental Music Department has earned this year include a first place trophy for the Drum Line and a second place trophy for the Advanced Band. Mr. Loren Pinto, a veteran teacher of 35 years who will be retiring after this year will be a guest conductor at this concert.
The Newark Music Boosters will be selling baked goods at the concert. Anyone wishing to donate to the NMHS Instrumental Music Department can contact Mr. Tatum at (510) 818-4419. There will be a $5 requested donation to help pay for cleaning the Marching Band uniforms this summer.
