May 28, 2008 > Open Studios

Each year, the public is treated to an incredible opportunity; a chance to glimpse inside local art studios to meet artists and understand the creative process that results in a finished artwork. Fremont Art Association (FAA), representing a diverse group of styles, media and expertise, has encouraged artists to open their workshops to the public at this time of year, allowing personal visits, browsing and purchase from a plethora of offerings. The weekend self-guided tour includes work spaces located in a wide variety of locales including private homes, art schools and commercial studios. Visitors are welcome to view acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, paper art, computer art, silkscreen prints, charcoal, colored pencil, gourds, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, glass, sculpture, photography, mixed media and more.
Over 50 artists and artisans at 11 local sites will be open for the Seventh Annual Tri-Cities Open Studios tour on the weekend of May 31 - June 1. Not only will artworks be available for inspection (and purchase), but artists will be available to answer questions and explain the process. In many cases, art of this caliber is primarily displayed in fine galleries throughout the Bay Area at substantial cost and without the benefit of personal artist comment. Open Studios offers the community a chance to know their creative neighbors and take advantage of personal insights as well as great savings. Artworks for sale can range from $10 for small pieces of jewelry to over $1,800 for major sculptures, watercolors or oils.
Studio trekkers can download a map at www.fremontartassociation.org or pick up a brochure with map included at one of the studio sites or the FAA Gallery in the Niles district of Fremont. FAA is coordinating the event and encourages all studio visitors to have their map stamped at each location and return it to the FAA Gallery for a chance to win door prizes, provided by gallery members.
Don't miss this gala of eye candy by award-winning and nationally-recognized Tri-City artists. Maps showing the locations of artist studios will be available at the FAA Gallery and their website www.fremontartassociation.org. Signs will be posted along the route to assist in locating each site.
