$10,000 Public Service Scholarship

Gabriella Wong, Union City native and UC Davis student, won a public service scholarship of $10,000 from the Donald A. Strauss Scholarship Foundation.

The foundation was established as a memorial to the late Don Strauss of Newport Beach, and now designed to award $10,000 scholarships to at least 14 California college juniors annually.

The Strauss scholarships fund public service projects that the students have proposed and will carry out during their senior year. Gabriella will establish a community organization that focuses on the deaf and hard of hearing community of students at UC Davis.

Gabriella will also create a mentorship, outreach, recruitment program that allows UC Davis students to go to various schools such as the California School for the Deaf, mainstream middle schools and high schools, and community colleges to hold presentations in order to motivate and encourage these students to pursue an education at UC Davis.
