First Fremont Home to Participate in 'Build It Green' Home Tour
Submitted By Lori Marra
On Sunday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., take a self-guided tour to visit houses on the Build It Green Home Tour, and see green building practices in person. Speak with homeowners, builders, and designers about the materials they chose, installation do's and don'ts, and lessons learned. The tour covers remodels and brand new custom homes. View materials and technologies including solar hot water and solar electric systems, radiant floor heating, FSC-certified wood products, bamboo, cork and natural linoleum flooring, recycled glass countertops, dual-flush toilets, green roofs, a graywater system, and more!
The inclusion of the Welschmeyer residence in this educational program will be the first time the City of Fremont is represented in the Build it Green Home Tour event. The location of the Fremont home is in the heart of culturally rich historic district of Niles. Paul Welschmeyer is an architect and he and his wife Jana designed the addition using green building practices.
A tour guidebook is the admission ticket into all of the homes on the tour. The cost is $30 per person or save 15 percent when you buy another guidebook to share with a friend: $50 admits two. Guidebooks are available for sale on Build It Green's website at www.BuildItGreen.org or locally at Dale Hardware, 37100 Post St. in Fremont; their phone number is 510-797-3700. In addition to the Fremont home, the tour includes 18 houses in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, including five homes in Berkeley, four in Oakland, and two in Livermore.
