International Curling Competition
Submitted By Brent Halpenny
This Friday, May 23, will see the start of an International Curling Competition - the Golden Gate Bonspiel, in Fremont. This twenty-four team event will have seventeen teams from all over the U.S.A. and Canada competing against seven teams from the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club (SFBACC).
The SFBACC has been curling for fifty years in the Bay Area, and it is only fitting to celebrate their golden anniversary with the inaugural Golden Gate Bonspiel. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, and will continue with games on Saturday, May 24, leading to the championship finals on Sunday, May 25, at noon. The three days of curling will be at Sharks Ice at Fremont and is open free of charge to the public. Come and see internationally recognized curlers perform on the ice. It is a great way to beat the heat.
