Submitted By Becky Goularte
On Saturday & Sunday, May 17 - 18, Holy Spirit Parish will celebrate its 122nd anniversary with its traditional Holy Spirit Festival. The Festival was first celebrated on May 29, 1887, Pentecost Sunday, in thanksgiving of the parish's first year and in honor of its namesake.
The Festival will begin with opening ceremonies on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. and include international food booths, live entertainment, a poker booth, sports games, and games of chance. The final event will be the Festival Raffle, which will be drawn at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
On Sunday, May 18th, the day will include a procession at 11 a.m., part of whose course will proceed down Fremont Boulevard in Fremont to the entrance of the church. A solemn High Mass at 12:30 p.m. will be celebrated, culminating with the crowning of Kimberly Dutrow as Holy Spirit Festival Queen. Kimberly is the daughter of Patrick and Karen Dutrow.
The Festival will close Sunday at 5 p.m.
