Grab your straw hat, dancing boots and a friend; the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) Pathfinder Chapter in Fremont is throwing a Chuck Wagon Barbeque. On Sunday, May 4, at 4 p.m. the Elks Lodge in Fremont will be home to dancing, delicious food, auctions, and more for ABWA's western-themed event to raise funds for their programs.
For over 50 years, ABWA has provided career development skills, workshops and education for women with the belief that these program allow women to grow professionally as well as personally. Through online learning, continuing education, training and development, leadership certificates, corporate education partnerships, business skills grants and loans, and much more, ABWA is helping women of our community to improve their environment and themselves.
Jackie Kranich, Co-Chair of the Chuck Wagon Barbeque, said the event is a fundraiser which will help to provide scholarships to female students who are attending community college, a four-year university, or vocational school and reside in the Alameda County area. "Because of fundraisers such as this one, we are awarding two $2,000 scholarships to female students that meet our criteria," said Kranich. Fundraisers like this also provide opportunities for members of the Pathfinder Chapter to have educational programs at meetings and financial aid to attend ABWA conferences and conventions.
Sunday's fundraising event, the Chuck Wagon Barbeque, will have three different types of auctions; a quarter auction, silent auction and live auction. Kranich said that live auction items will include A's tickets, a will and trust package, an Amish quilt, a homemade quilt rack, two nights stay at one of many locations, and a dine around town package. There will also be an opportunity drawing for a piece of electronic equipment.
With BBQ tri-tip, chicken, baby back ribs, and all of the sides to complete your plate, this event is going to be filled with goodies just like the chuck wagons cowboys used on trail drives of the old West. Something the cowboy chuck wagons didn't carry - but this barbeque will - is a line dancing demonstration and lesson. That's right, those boots don't need to be just for show, you can use on the floor while learning western dance moves and supporting ABWA. Tickets for the barbeque are $30 and include dinner, the dance lesson, an opportunity drawing, music, and the fun of participating in three different auctions.
