Free seminar focuses on dementia
Submitted By Anastacia Corse
The community is invited to a presentation on Dementia taking place Tuesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. at AlmaVia of Union City.
Guest speaker is Dr. Elizabeth A. Landsverk, a double board-certified geriatrician and internist with extensive experience in medical and psychosocial issues in older individuals. Landsverk will highlight how individuals can recognize the first signs of memory loss, how to diagnosis Dementia, and outline the resources and medications that are currently available.
"This presentation is ideal for adult children or a spouse caring for a loved one with Dementia," stated Anastacia Corse, Community Relations Director for AlmaVia of Union City. "When caring for a senior still living independently at home, it's hard to know the differences between normal memory loss and early stages of Dementia without hearing from a professional," she added.
Landsverk has been in private practice since 2005. Before that, she was Medical Director of Vitas Hospice of Marin and Sonoma and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics at the University of California San Francisco.
AlmaVia of Union City is an assisted living and dementia care community, open since October 2005. AlmaVia is affiliated with Elder Care Alliance, cosponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Burlingame and the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
