It was a beautiful, but windy, Saturday afternoon on March 8 for Fremont club soccer team "The Pack" as they kicked off the spring season against "Rice Crispies" at the Celtic Park Soccer field. Spring was in the air and the grass was green and freshly mowed when the teams squared off. It was a hard fought game with both teams playing well and aggressively, but fair.
During the first half of the game the teams were well matched as both teams had almost equal possession of the ball, and did a good job moving the ball toward each other's goal with great teamwork. The Pack forwards, led by Kendra Maclure, Erica Ohye, Demi Medeiros, Roshana Jacob, Aiman Arif, Alicia Shi, and Maryia Waheed attacked aggressively and moved the ball down the field quickly to score two first half goals.
Maclure scored both Pack goals on some great passing from her teammates only to see Rice Crispies respond with a goal of their own. The defensive team for The Pack, which included Ravneet Kaur, Savina Khangur, Menaka Shankar, Deeksha Mehta, Alice Ding, Olivia Hanna, Erika Neave, and Tiffany Sarchet did a terrific job of defending their goal. Pack goalkeeper, Jessica McNair, performed phenomenally well under pressure and stopped several attempted shots on the goal. McNair also did a good job of clearing the ball off Pack's goal line. At half-time, The Pack led 2-1.
After half-time, the tide turned with Rice Crispies mounting a sustained offensive to score four more goals and end the game winning 5-2. Both teams played well under pressure and the two coaches, Ed Ohye of The Pack and Paul Dunn of the Rice Crispies, did a great job getting the two teams ready for the first game of the season with a great display of teamwork.
