Minor B Braves vs. Royals
Submitted By Dana Casey
Wow, what an absolute gorgeous day Saturday, March 8, turned out to be for NCLL's opening Day. Coach Cole Casey of the Royals had a smile on his face all day. First he watched his daughter Shelby sing the National Anthem at the opening day ceremonies, and then he cheered his team on their first victory of the season.
The new NCLL batting cages are proving to be a great success. Nathan made the first hit of the Braves' season, while the Royals made two outstanding plays in the outfield. EJ Santos on the pitchers mound together with Ryan Caravantes at first base made the second out of the first inning. The final out of the inning was again accomplished by Ryan Caravantes, with the assistance of Colton Casey at second base.
The Royals started their at bat with a bang. There were a total of eight hits (one of which was a double by Thomas Poniatowski) and five RBI's. The inning ended by the new five-run per inning rule. The second inning brought no runs, but Matthew McKinney and Thomas from the Royals both made it to base with a high fly to right field. The Braves' defense was on alert. Their pitcher, Bailey Pimentel, stopped a hard hit and threw to first baseman, Nico, for an out during the second inning.
The Royals achieved six hits and three runs in both the third and fourth innings, for a total of six RBI's by Ryan, Tanner Granzella, Sam Braun, Alex Rodriquez, Colton, and Bradley Slater. In the fourth inning, the Braves had two hits, both Santana and Nico made it to base. Joey Jorgens, of the Royals, earned the great play of the day pin with an awesome fly ball catch at short stop. EJ Santos received the game ball with an assisted out, two hits and an RBI. The game ended at the fourth inning with the score of 11-0, Royals winning.
