Mattos Science Magnet registration open
Submitted By Nicole Steward
Mattos Elementary School Science Magnet is accepting registration until Monday, March 31, 2008. Registration is open to elementary students from throughout the Fremont area. Special programs include a student-published science magazine, a live weather station, and the Mad Science after school club. Developing thinking skills and investigative methods while learning science concepts helps children reach their full potential.
The Magnet Program features a comprehensive science curriculum where science is integrated into all subjects. Students conduct science-related research in a state-of-the-art science lab where they receive 50-100 minutes of lab work per week. Students also participate in an annual science fair and attend science field trips and assemblies. GATE enrichment is available.
"My favorite science experiment was in the fourth grade when we made and launched hot air balloons," said Mini P., a sixth grade student at Mattos. "We got to interact as a group and have hands-on science. We went outside, launched our balloon, and then ran after it when it came down. I really loved that experience."
Parents must apply by Monday, March 31. Transfer forms can be found at any elementary school in the Fremont Unified School District and on the Mattos Elementary School website at www.fremont.k12.ca.us/mattos.
