January 23, 2008 > Youth Dixieland Festival Youth Dixieland Festival East Bay Traditional Jazz Society will be holding their first Youth Dixieland Festival. Dixieland music is a particular style of jazz created in New Orleans in the early 20th century; the purpose of the festival is to get young people interested in such music. Their goal is also to support youth jazz scholarships and youth programs. The featured jazz bands are: Dixie Dominus of Fremont Christian, Silverado Jazz Miners, San Marin HS Dixieland Band, and the Jazzinators of East Bay Traditional Jazz Society. All are comprised of young people will be playing live jazz music throughout the event. The festival is at the Pizza Depot where pizza, sandwiches, salads, soda, wine, and beer will be available for purchase. The Youth Dixieland Festival is free for anyone who wishes to attend, but donating money after each band performs is encouraged because these funds go toward the bands, expenses, and scholarships Youth and jazz enthusiasts are expected to be the main attendants of this event, so attend and help close the generational "jazz gap".
