Bay Area Curling at Sharks Ice in Fremont

Submitted By Brent Halpenny

San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club (SFBACC) has an opportunity for all those wishing to curl. These activities will be centered at Sharks Ice in Fremont. Membership in SFBACC is not required for these events.

First, SFBACC will be having an Open House on Saturday, Jan.12, from 9:15 - 11:45 p.m. This will be FREE to the public and registration for the evening will begin at 8 p.m. For the Open House, those wanting to participate in curling should wear loose fitting slacks (jeans are not recommended) a warm jacket, and a good pair of runners or sneakers. A hat and/or gloves are usually a good idea. Family and friends are welcome as spectators and they should also wear warm clothing.

At 9:45 p.m. the same evening, two local Bocce Ball Clubs are challenging SFBACC
to curling matches. The curlers will challenge the bocce ball players in their sport at a later date. You will be able to watch the curlers and bocce ball players through glass windows from Stanley's Bar & Grill which overlooks the ice rink. There is no admission charge for spectators. You only pay for food and beverages. Stanley's will be open late that night.

Second, lessons in an Instructional League on Saturday nights from 9:30 - 11:45 p.m. will begin Saturday, Jan.26. The fee for ten weeks is $175.00. All students will be paired with experienced SFBACC members. This will allow both brand new curlers and advanced students to participate and have fun. Stick and wheelchair curlers are also welcome on request. Registration for the Instructional League can be found online at: http://www.usarinks.com/connect3/SilverStream/Pages/pgAPPProgramsIndiv_3.html?pp_id=2&fac=sharksice&facility_id=1 or sharksice@fremont.com

More information, as it becomes available, can be found by visiting www.bayareacurling.com. If you have questions or comments, feel free to contact SFBACC President, Brent Halpenny, at any time by calling (510) 472-0168, or emailing him at curlingclan@gmail.com.
