Alameda County receives bequest
Submitted By Jean Hofacket, County Librarian
The Alameda County Library was pleased to announce on Wednesday, Jan 2, that the Albany Library is the recipient of a generous bequest from the estate of the late Kenneth Kaufman.
In addition to his career as a teacher in elementary schools in both Southern and Northern California, Mr. Kaufman was on the faculty of Cal State East Bay, where he enjoyed the opportunity to train young people who had selected teaching as their vocations. He wrote books about poetry, as well as photography, and was working on a book on education for parents and teachers.
According to his father, Walter S. Kaufman, Mr. Kaufman was passionate about collecting first edition children's books and had an extensive and fascinating collection. He was truly "a man for all seasons," with interests in sports, hiking and music.
Over the next several years, the Albany Library will use the funds to supplement the Library's collection of books and DVDs.
