Washington Hospital Offers a Variety of Free Classes and Screenings in 2008

Washington Hospital's latest biannual Health & Wellness Catalog is now available. The free catalog is a great tool for navigating the large amount of useful classes and programs offered by your local community hospital. The H&W catalog has an all new look and includes a six month calendar that can be detached and used for easy reference.

The Health & Wellness Catalog contains a complete list of upcoming classes from January through June 2008. The catalog also serves as a helpful resource for taking full advantage of your community hospital's other community services and top-notch medical programs.

Inside the quarterly catalog you will find:
* A list of free community classes and seminars
* A complete list of Women's Health classes and programs offered through the Washington Women's Center
* Community services, such as the Washington Community Health Resource Library and Washington on Wheels (W.O.W) Mobile Health Clinic
* Health & Wellness education, from diabetes self management to stroke rehabilitation
* Maternal health classes, including breastfeeding support services, parent preparation, prenatal classes and an Infant/Child CPR course for family and friends
* Detailed information about the Second Annual Women's Health Conference that will take place at Washington Hospital on January 26
* Free community health screenings, including blood pressure screening, osteoporosis screening, skin cancer screening, stroke risk factor screening and a peripheral vascular screening
* Support groups for those living with different conditions and illnesses, such as cancer, Parkinson's disease and suffering the loss of a loved one
* Directory of services, complete with program descriptions and phone numbers
* Map and Directions to Washington Hospital, Washington Clinic/Fremont and Washington West, which houses our Gamma Knife Center, Washington Women's Center and Outpatient Imaging Center

The free Health & Wellness classes and screenings are conducted by the physicians and caregivers of Washington Hospital. These classes are now being held in two different locations - at the Conference Center adjacent to Nakamura Clinic, Union City, located at 33077 Alvarado-Niles Road and Conrad E. Anderson, M.D. Auditorium, Washington West, 2500 Mowry Ave., located across the street from the main hospital.

Featured on the cover of the current catalog is Fremont resident Nancy Stewart and Phyllis Fiscella, R.N., Noninvasive Cardiac Manager for Washington Hospital.
Stewart participates in Washington Hospital's Ladies Choice Fitness Program. This fitness program is designed for women who can benefit from the support of a personal trainer and for women who want to exercise in a group setting. The program takes place inside the Cardiac Rehab Gym located at 2500 Mowry Avenue, 2nd floor (Washington West) in Fremont. For more information about the program, call (510) 494-7022.

The winter/spring portion of the year offers a variety of classes - from learning more about heart disease and osteoarthritis to the latest treatment for sports injuries. (See the box on this page for more details.)
