Nominations for Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame
Submitted By Crystal Hishida Graff
Applications are available to nominate outstanding women for induction into the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame for 2008.
It will be the 15th straight year that Alameda County is celebrating the accomplishments of women in the community through its Women's Hall of Fame (WHOF) program. Inductees will be honored at the annual Women's Hall of Fame luncheon and awards ceremony on Saturday, Mar. 29, 2008 at His Lordships Restaurant, 199 Seawall Dr., Berkeley.
Nominations are being accepted for women in Alameda County who have excelled in any of 11 categories: Business and Professions; Community Service; Culture and Art; Education; Environment; Health; Justice; Non-Traditional Careers; Science; Sports and Athletics and Youth. Please see application for details/rules.
The Women's Hall of Fame is co-hosted by Alameda County Board of Supervisors and County Administrator and the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women. The WHOF event raises money for a selected charity. In the past, proceeds were donated to breast cancer programs serving low-income and minority women in Alameda County.
For the second straight year, the Women's Hall of Fame program will also accept contributions to a scholarship fund to help young women further their education or training. Last year, the program raised money for its youth category winner, Sade Daniels of Oakland, who is now attending Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.
This year's Women's Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in late February, with the winners to be honored at the Women's Hall of Fame luncheon and awards ceremony in March 2008.
Nomination forms are available online at www.acgov.org/cao/halloffame or by calling the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women at (510) 259-3871. The online nomination form is available on the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame website, which is part of Alameda County's online offerings -- www.acgov.org.
The deadline for nominations is Jan. 3, 2008.
