On December 1st, the Rotary Clubs of Area Three sponsored a pancake breakfast fundraiser for StarStruck Theatre at the Fremont Elk's Club on Farwell Drive. Nearly 500 people enjoyed not only the hot breakfast but great performances by the cast of StarStruck's upcoming musical, "Honk!" Fremont's Mayor Wasserman, a member of the Mission San Jose Rotary Club, attended the breakfast along with several other Fremont officials.
Rotarians and StarStruck parents were up and ready at 5:30 a.m. at the Elk's Lodge setting up the tables and chairs and preparing the egg-cellent breakfast. All seven presidents of Area Three Rotaries were on hand to flip pancakes, pour coffee, and set tables. Without the help of volunteers, including three student rotary clubs (InterAct), the breakfast fundraiser could not have been so successful. In addition to the delicious pancake breakfast, patrons were entertained by the talented performances of approximately 60 members of StarStruck's "Honk!" cast including "Poultry Tale", "Different", Every Tear A Mother Cries", "Warts and All" and holiday carols.
The Rotary is proud to support StarStruck Theatre, a non-profit organization, whose mission is to keep youth theatre alive but most importantly providing training, teamwork, responsibility and a greater sense of self in each student (actor). Jack Rogers, President of the Niles Rotary, founded in 1937 stated, "The Mission San Jose and Niles Rotaries went to see StarStruck's 'Beauty and the Beast' last summer and we were so impressed. We said let's find a way to help this group succeed in our community." The primary goal of Rotary is to build community and our local Rotary clubs support many Tri-City organizations to achieve it.
