Newark Knockouts, a Girl's Division 4, Under-12 team of Newark Soccer Club, were undefeated in league play this year. Not only did they take first place in their own Newark League, but the Knockouts went on to take first place at the CYSA (California Youth Soccer Association) Division III end of Season Sunset Champion's Cup in San Ramon Dec. 1 - 2. This has been an outstanding season for the Knockout soccer team and there is one thing for certain, the Newark Knockouts definitely rule!

Players for the Knockouts are Nisreen Alhayek, Tiffany Borg, Alia Caro, Andrea Caro, Camila De La Pena, Nicole Eggerling, Amanda Ibarra, Gisselle Jiminez, Amanda Lopez, Sabena Mangat, Karina Moreno Gil, Mayra Ochoa, April Ramos, Lani Renshaw, Vannessa Rodriguez, Elizabeth Ruiz and Rachel Schultz. They are led by Head Coach Roddy Lopez and assistant coach Carlos Moreno Gil.

The Knockouts won three games and tied one at the Sunset Championship Cup. The Knockouts took an impressive lead in game one, Saturday morning, against the Dublin Crush that ended with a 5-0 win. One goal each was scored by Andrea Caro, Alia Caro, Lopez, Jimenez and Alhayek. The next game was more evenly matched against the Mustang Rockets. Despite many attempts on goal, which frazzled the nerves of the players, coaches and fans, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

In the Sunday morning match, the Knockouts came back to win against the San Ramon Wildcats, 2-1. This was a close game with a lot of excitement and shots on goal that were just missed. One of the goals for the Knockouts was the result of an own goal by San Ramon, while Rodriguez scored the other Newark goal. This second win of the Sunset Cup sent the Knockouts into the championship match against the San Ramon Rebels.

In the championship game, the Knockouts faced a very aggressive and fast team fielded by the Rebels. Newark had to step up their game if they were to win the championship. It turned out to be a very hard fought and fast paced final as goals by the Knockouts' Andrea Caro and Rodriguez gave Newark a 2-0 championship win. The entire team, coaches and parents jumped up and down with pride and joy when the final whistle blew. Outstanding defense in all four games was played by Eggerling and goalies Lopez and Borg, who only allowed one goal during the entire tournament.

Now the Knockouts have added one more first place trophy to their first place Newark League trophy and their first place finish in the Sonoma Honey Invitational earlier this year. Again, thanks go to the great coaching by Coaches Lopez and Moreno Gil with help from Michele Lopez and Christina Lemos. Also, special thanks to Team Mom, Teena Caro, Team Manager, Cherie Schultz and all the support from the players' parents. It has been an unforgettable soccer season for the Knockouts. Newark Knockouts all the way.
