December is fast approaching, and winter will soon be here. Maybe our lakes and streams will continue to flow throughout the cold months, but there is one local pond that is always frozen and ready for ice skating, especially during the winter months. The place to be during this time of the year is Sharks Ice, a fully functional ice rink in the Warm Springs district of Fremont, offering loads of entertainment to all age groups. Jon Gustafson, General Manager of Sharks Ice, stated that Sharks Ice is, "an awesome recreational facility." With diverse and exciting activities such as broomball, curling, figure skating, ice hockey and much more, one can only agree.

Sharks Ice, previously known as Iceoplex, was purchased by Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment, a company affiliated with the professional ice hockey team, San Jose Sharks. Major renovations and changes took place, with an upgrade that included better facilities, and employees that offer an amazing customer experience.

An arcade filled with a variety of games was brought to the facility, as well as a pro-skate shop. Games in the arcade include Simpson Pinball, Cruisin' World, Street Fighter, and Police Trainer. Also, an upstairs bar/restaurant, Stanley's Bar, was added to Sharks Ice, allowing guests to rest and relax with a sandwich and brew while visiting the arena. This family friendly environment has widescreen televisions, a pool table, air hockey, and an exceptional view of the ice rink.

There is also an excellent snack bar which serves many delicious items. The snack bar caters to an array of specialties, from fries and cheese sticks, to burgers, pizzas, and even chicken wings. The prices at the snack bar are low, with meals ranging anywhere from about $3.50 to $7.

Recently, Sharks Ice has undergone a sort of "remodeling". The entire arena has been repainted, and the actual ice rink itself has been completely replaced. These changes have made Sharks Ice more attractive in a visual manner, but have also improved the quality of the Fremont location. Furthermore, a new system of dehumidification has been introduced, which removes humidity from the air, allowing the ice to stay frozen.

A wide variety of classes are offered at Sharks Ice, ranging from hockey and speed skating lessons, to theater ice dancing and curling lessons. These lessons are offered to all age groups, and are conducted several times throughout the week. Furthermore, all lessons cater to various abilities, with classes for beginners, intermediates, and experts. The prices for the classes vary, but discounts are offered for large parties and family-member signups.

There are also some major events at Sharks Ice coming up in the near future. The arena will be hosting the Silver Stick Tournament on Thanksgiving Weekend, which is a hockey tournament of elite teams. During the last week of December, the Junior Sharks Winter Classic Tournament will be held, which involves traveling teams from the ages of eight to eighteen. Admission to both tournaments will be free of charge.

For those that purely enjoy ice skating, daily sessions are open to the public. There are morning and afternoon sessions on weekdays, and a special evening session on Saturdays. Each general admission pass only costs $7.50, while prices for children are $6.50. Skate rental is available for a small fee of $3.50. Senior and group discounts are also offered.

Sharks Ice is an exceptional facility that brings the fun of the ice rink to Fremont. Whether for a single skating session, or multiple lessons, Sharks Ice is a great way to enjoy the coming months.
