League of Volunteers' holiday pops concert and toy drive
Submitted By Shirley Sisk
On Sunday, Dec. 2, The Tri-Cities League of Volunteers and the Newark Arts Council will present The Ohlone Symphonic Band and the Ohlone Tuba Ensemble, under the direction of Tony Clements at 12:30 p.m. This is LOV's annual holiday pops concerts, a benefit and "toy raiser" for needy children in the Tri-City area of Fremont, Newark, and Union City.
Admission is a new un-wrapped toy or monetary donation to be used to purchase toys. All proceeds are used for the Tri-City Toys for Tots campaign. This is the 14th year that LOV and the U.S. Marine Corps have joined together to help make children's wishes come true during the holiday season. For safety and health reasons, and to send the most positive message to children, only new toys are accepted.
The program will include all your favorite holiday music as well as folk music from around the world. The annual concert has become a traditional way for the community to kick off the holiday season. Representatives of the U.S. Marine Corps will be on hand to accept your toys.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the concert begins at 12:30 p.m. Because this concert is being held at an earlier hour than normal, there will be complimentary holiday refreshments following the program.
LOV's concerts are held at the MacGregor/Bridgepoint School Auditorium in Newark. There is easy access and parking in both the front and rear of the building.
For more information, call (510) 793-5683 or visit www.lov.org.
