November 21, 2007 > Stage 1 Auditions Stage 1 Auditions Submitted By Belinda Maloney Stage 1 Community Theatre in Newark will hold auditions for Steel Magnolias, a comedy/drama by Robert Harling and directed by Robert Casillas. The story is set in a beauty salon in Louisiana where "anybody who is anyone" comes to have their hair done. Wise-cracking owner, Truvy, hands out hair-dos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, the local social leader, M'Lynn, and her soon-to-be married daughter, Shelby. Throw in the new salon assistant, Annelle, and you have a comic and poignant mix of friendship and humor. Auditions are Monday & Tuesday, Dec. 3 & 4, 7 - 10 p.m. Callbacks will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 11a.m. - 4 p.m. Performance dates are Feb. 22-24, 29 and Mar.1, 2, and 7, 8. Auditions and performances are held at Newark Memorial High School Theatre, 39375 Cedar Blvd. in Newark. We are looking for ages 20 - 70. Prepare two 2-minute monologues, not from Steel Magnolias: 1 comedic & 1 dramatic. Director may also ask you to cold read from the script.
