Workshops for Household Management for Clean Water Protection
Submitted By Laura Hidas
Local residents and land managers interested in learning how they can help protect their local water supply are invited to attend two free workshops on Nov. 3 and 14 in Livermore.
The Alameda County Water District, the Zone 7 Water Agency, and the Santa Clara Valley Water District, in cooperation with the Alameda County Resource Conservation District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the South Bay Aqueduct Watershed Workgroup, are organizing the workshops which will focus on land, home and livestock management for clean water. The South Bay Aqueduct system, which is part of the State Water Project, supplies drinking water to more than two million people in Alameda and Santa Clara counties.
The first workshop will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Livermore Public Library, 1188 South Livermore Ave., Livermore, and will feature speakers on fire safety and water pollution prevention. The second workshop will be held on Wednesday, Nov 14, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Livermore City Council Chambers, 1052 S. Livermore Ave., and will feature speakers on grazing, erosion management and conservation easements.
Interested parties are invited to attend and may also call (510) 668-6533 for more information. Workshop attendees will learn about tools for protecting local waterways, which benefit the environment, provide for recreation, and contribute to local drinking water supplies.
Financial support for the workshops is being provided through a Proposition 13 Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Grant administered by the State Water Resources Control Board for the CALFED Bay-Delta Program.
