It was the final game, and a very important one, for Caution on a cold and windy Thursday afternoon, Oct. 25, at Fremont's Central Park field #5. The winning team would earn the second place trophy for the fall season. Both teams, Caution and Cyclone, had played each other before and both had won a hard fought game, each by one goal. You could feel the tension in the air. Even the parents of Caution players, Debbie Gronski, Kelly Ohye and Wynn Kageyama who helped set up the goal nets, were nervous, but they were still able to carefully strap on the nets to the goal posts and securely stake them into the ground. While Caution's girls were warming up, you could hear Coach Ed trying to calm the teams' nerves and butterflies by telling them his three golden rules: 1. Have fun, 2. Respect yourself, each other, your coaches, the referees, the other team, and your parents, and 3. Do your best.
First half of the game was an awesome display of defensive power by both teams. Caution goalie Sara Talooi had many spectacular saves, while the Caution defense, lead by Christina Kim at fullback, included Kamya Raja, Dipti Kanthilal, Niku Jafarnia and Rachel Heng. In the first half the Caution offensive players, Alexis Kageyama, Selina Mahesri, Malika Rajvanshy, Zahra Sarwary, Nicole Gronski, Nan Li, and Erica Ohye, flexed their power with numerous shots on the Cyclone goal keeping the Cyclone goal keeper very busy. However, neither Caution nor Cyclone could find the back of the net and the first half ended 0-0.
The beginning of the second half started with a burst of offense by Cyclone, who scored the first goal off a corner kick. Caution struck back on the ensuing kick-off after the goal. Forward Selina Mahesri of Caution dribbled the ball from midfield to the Cyclone Goal, and then sliced a grounder into the lower right corner of the net as it caught the Cyclone goal keeper going the other way. The tying goal fired up the Caution team as a few minutes later forward Erica Ohye sprinted with the ball from midfield to the right corner of the field where she cannoned a crossing pass to Alexis Kageyama who was standing less than five feet from the goal.
Kageyama then easily tapped the ball across the goal mouth for what turned out to be the game winner. At this point the whole Caution team went into an all out defensive shell to preserve the lead and secure the win. The victory gave Caution the second place title and trophy for the Under-16 Girls' House League Fall Season.
