Haunted House and Spooktacular at Matt Jiminez Community Center:
Ghosts and ghouls can be found at the Matt Jimenez Community Center's first-ever Halloween Haunted House. The event is being held at the center with the help of Hayward Kiwanis Club volunteers who aim to bring the community together through family friendly activities. The Haunted House costs $5 to tour and is open to the whole family.
For a less intense, but still festive celebration, attend Spooktacular at the Matt Jimenez Community Center. This carnival will feature games, face painting, candy, and more. Spooktacular takes place just before the Haunted House opens, so you can arrive at the center early to play games and eat treats, then take an adventure through the spooky Haunted House.
On Halloween, the center will hold a costume contest from 5 - 6 p.m. with great prizes for winning entries. All ages are encouraged to participate. The Spooktacular is free, and booth games are only 25 cents. Each booth is designed with a particular age group in mind, so there truly is something for all ages.

Sulphur Creek Nature Center Unhaunted House
For those whose tastes run more to long-legged beasts, the Sulphur Creek Nature Center's Unhaunted House is the ideal destination. There, attendees are invited to "experience an unusual Halloween" on a creepy tour through the darkened chambers of the Nature Center, where visitors will meet up with spiders, snakes, owls, turkey vultures, toads, and other creepy-crawlies. Tours of the Unhaunted House start every half hour Saturday, Oct. 27, between 6 - 9 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1 - 4 p.m. Tickets are $6 per person (under 3 free). Tours have limited availability, so book ahead to make sure you get your preferred time by calling (510) 881-6700 or registering online at http://www.haywardrec.org.
Stick around to roast marshmallows and hot dogs around a campfire, share scary stories, play games, and get creative with Halloween crafts. For the brave of heart, there will be a special night hike on Saturday.
