Disney's High School Musical: The Ice Tour

By Mona Shah

It's a hit TV movie, a quadruple-platinum CD, a touring live concert and a top-selling DVD. Now, "High School Musical" is hitting the ice. The cultural sensation reaches a whole new level of cool with "The Ice Tour." Featuring a live fusion of songs, dance and team-spirited fun to celebrate the music of the original Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel movie and its sequel, "High School Musical 2," which premiered to a record audience on the Disney Channel in August.

A modern-day take on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Tour tells the story of two students from different walks of life, who audition for the leads in their high school musical. The show will feature music from the popular "High School Musical" soundtrack, including "We're All in This Together," "Get'cha Head in the Game," "Start of Something New," "Stick to the Status Quo," and new music from "High School Musical 2."

Starring as Chad Danforth in the East Coast tour is Union City's Stephen Smith. Smith, who now lives in Chicago, started his skating career at age 10. "A family friend took me to a skating competition and I was hooked," says Smith. He took skating lessons at the Southland Mall and started competing actively. A professional figure skater, Smith has performed in many of Disney's shows, at Knott's Berry Farm and at the Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies in Salt Lake City, UT. "Skating is my passion, it is what I enjoy doing," says Smith. At 36 years old, he has been a professional skater for over 10 years and is a U.S. National Championship competitor and a United States Figure Skating Association Gold medalist.

With the ice as the dance floor, this event is an unprecedented twist on a fan favorite.
