Juried show highlights the best of Bay Area artworks

By Mona Shah

A common misconception is that in order to find something of value, great distances must be traveled to find it. The corollary of this philosophy is that others living far away are traveling great distances to our neighborhood to find the same thing. A rational person might put these two thoughts together and conclude that there must be many items of great value in our own backyard. Our community is home to many talented artists, some featured in premiere art galleries throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

It may seem too easy to travel a mile or two to view and purchase their works, but the reality is that this is not only possible but can be substantiated. Local high caliber talent is immensely beneficial for the entire community - artist, buyer and those who simply appreciate fine art. Exhibits, open studios and galleries often showcase this plethora of talent, but for many, the time to view such works is at local art shows that bring out the best for viewing.

One of those opportunities will make its appearance at the Fremont Art Association's annual Fine Art Show at its gallery in historic downtown Niles held from September 28 - October 14. The chance to visit this juried show and stroll along the scenic streets of Niles has everything an art aficionado could ask for. The show will feature over 200 artists from the Bay area using a variety of media: Oil and Acrylics, Water Media, Graphics (includes pastel, graphite, charcoal and mixed media), Three Dimensional Art, and Photography and Computer-generated art.

A "juried" show requires an expert assessment of the works presented. In this case, award winning artist, Gerald Boyd, a skilled teacher who gives popular demonstrations at art associations all over Northern California will designate winning entries. Member and non-member art is reviewed for acceptance at this show. The prestige and recognition of high caliber juried shows such as this entice artists from a wide geographical area submit their work. It is considered an honor to be accepted into the show, let alone claim one of the coveted prizes awarded. A "Best of Show" honor is also awarded.

The FAA juried art show is a treat for the senses and a unique opportunity for those shopping for singular art works. This is a rare opportunity to browse through fine artworks that meets the criteria of a discerning master of art. Whether created by a neighbor or a faraway artist, this represents some of the best the art world has to offer. Don't miss it.

An hors d'oeuvres reception and awards presentation will be held at the Gallery on Saturday, September 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to come to the Awards Reception where they can meet many exhibiting artists. A raffle will be held; lucky ticket holders will win artworks, art supplies and gift certificates from local merchants. Raffle tickets are $1each or six for $5 and may be purchased at the reception.
