Volunteer orientation at wildlife refuge
Prospective, new, and experience volunteers are invited to our Volunteer Orientations. This is a new program intended to expose volunteers to the many refuges that make up the San Francisco Bay Wildlife Refuge Complex, showcase the diverse volunteer opportunities, and offer training on a variety of topics. Orientations will be held approximately every other month on Saturday afternoons at the Visitor Center in Fremont. Fall Schedule: Saturday, September 8 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. General orientation followed by a guided tour of the Native Plant Nursery with our volunteer nursery supervisor, June Smith. Saturday, November 10 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. General orientation followed by a teambuilding session led by Tia Glagolev. Future orientations are tentatively scheduled for January, March and May. Topics include: Interpretation, Visitor Center Desk Operations, Basic Bird Identification, Seasonal Bird Walks, South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, and tours to various locations within the Complex.
