Titans go 5-1-1 in season football openers
By Biff Jones
Tri-Cities Titans Association of Peninsula Pop Warner League opened the 2007 Pop Warner Football season with five victories, one loss and one tie in six age group divisions last Saturday at Newark Junior High School.
Tiny Mites, ages 5-7, of which there are two teams (North and South), each won their games with South defeating East Bay West of Oakland, 24-18, and North winning 24-0 over Menlo-Atherton. All the other age group divisions, Mitey Mites, 7-9, Junior Pee-Wee, 9-11, Pee-Wee, 11-12, Junior Midgets, 12-14, and Midgets, 13-15, all played Menlo-Atherton. Mitey Mites suffered the Titans only loss of the opener, 16-14, while Jr. Pee-Wee tied 0-0. Pee-Wee won 25-12, Jr. Midgets were victorious 20-6 and Midgets closed out the day with a 12-0 victory. However, Midgets victory came a cost as two players suffered injuries, one a shoulder and the other a knee. It is hoped the injuries were not serious and that the two players will be back in action this coming Saturday.
Next three Saturdays see Tri-Cities hitting the road before returning to Newark Jr. High Saturday, September 29 in week five of their eight week regular season. All teams play four home and four away games during the regular season before participating in post season action if qualified.
