Task Force to Clean Up Hayward
Submitted By Kindra Mendall
The Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force is beginning a letter writing campaign targeting inadequately maintained properties by asking them to Take Pride in Hayward and improve the appearance of their properties. The Task Force is looking to home owners, residents, businesses, and organizations in Hayward to do their part to improve our community.
The Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force invites the public to come out on Saturdays to help clean up Hayward. Task Force-sponsored clean up events will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month from 8:30 am to 12 noon. Sites will be announced on the website (www.hayward-ca.gov) and via email to our list of volunteers (to be added to the list email firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out the registration form on our website).
The Task Force is also excited to launch a program targeting neglected properties owned by absentee landlords, and commercial/retail properties and apartment buildings that are not well maintained. Task Force volunteers will begin sending letters to those responsible asking them to Take Pride in Hayward by making specific improvements in the appearance of their property. Task Force members are looking for long-term solutions such as planting vegetation to cover frequent graffiti "targets", improving landscaping, and hiring management firms to better maintain properties. It could be as simple as having an employee pick up trash on the property every morning.
The Task Force continues to develop ideas and is looking forward to rolling out additional efforts in the future. We welcome anyone who is interested in improving the visual appearance in Hayward.
