Supporting women through art
By Meenu Gupta
Since opening in April 2004, the Bliss Dance Company has come a long way. The company, a volunteer-based organization of talented and devoted women, strives to support women's health issues through performance dance.
Commenting on the company's planned August production, Artistic Director Cassie Begley said, "We have an upcoming show about stereotypes of women. It talks about the pressures we get from the outside and from ourselves about being perfect/angelic...and about being sexual objects. I've seen on TV, movies and books how women are represented as either loving mothers with hearts of gold or vixens using the female sexuality to get what she wants. We haven't come up with a name for this show yet. We have a work in progress in August. If anyone would like to come and give us suggestions that would be great!"
