Country Club of Washington Township installs new officers
Submitted By Mary Wolfe
Country Club of Washington Township (C.C.W.T.) held their annual officer installation on Tuesday, June 5. This venerable women's organization was founded in 1896 drawing its name from the separation between "city" clubs and "country" clubs. Mary Wolfe will serve as president for her third term, the 61st president of the organization. Many prominent citizens have served in this organization; names familiar to current residents on street signs and public venues. These include: Patterson, Overacker, Bunting, Mowry, Chadbourne, Pond, Dusterberry, Ellsworth, Hirsch and Alameda, to name a few.
Good works and philanthropy have been the hallmarks of this group. C.C.W.T. was fundamental in the founding of Washington Hospital and this year, $3,700 was raised to support Ohlone College with two $500 scholarships for women and $600 to support three local high school students at the Northern California Leadership Seminar held at San Jose State University in April. Donations were also made to National Search Dog Foundation, Life Eldercare (Meals on Wheels) and many other non-profit organizations.
C.C.W.T. holds meetings on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and August) at 1 p.m. in the Social Hall of St. James Episcopal Church. Meetings feature club business, special speakers and refreshments. For more information, contact Mary Wolfe (510) 657-0130. Guests are always welcome.
