Rotary fires up for chili
Area 3 Rotary Clubs will host their 16th Annual Great Rotary Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, June 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Cook Off will take place in the parking lot of The Saddle Rack in Fremont and will feature chili tasting, live music by Appaloosa and Full Throttle, a hot rod car show, arts and crafts, food booths and raffles. Kids' activities will include a climbing wall, bounce house, and face painting. Washington on Wheels will also be in attendance. Admission is $5 for adults. Children age 12 and under can attend for free.
Cook-off attendees will receive a chili kit and voting tickets which can be used to vote for their favorite chili. Over 30 community groups ranging from police and fire departments to church groups and businesses will participate in the cook-off. Each group will prepare and serve ten gallons of chili for tasting.
The Chili Cook-Off was created 15 years ago by the Sunrise Rotary Club as a benefit for the Rotary Tri-Cities Clinics. While the annual Cook-Off continues to benefit that organization, in recent years, Area 3 Rotary clubs have included Washington on Wheels, a mobile clinic that provides screening, immunizations and health education to undeserved areas, and the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, designated charity of our local firefighters, as beneficiaries of the fundraiser. Rotary Clubs hope to raise $25,000 from this year's event.
