Tri-City Junior Giants ready for another season
This baseball season, don't just cheer from the bench - be a part of the action with the Junior Giants! Junior Giants baseball fever is back in the Tri-City area for the thirteenth year in a row. The Fremont and Union City leagues are currently looking for rookies, seasoned sluggers, and community leaders to step up to the plate as coaches and players.
The flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, Junior Giants is a free, non-competitive baseball league that provides underserved youth in inner cities and rural communities the opportunity to run the bases, rather than the streets, each summer. The leagues encourage participation from girls and boys of all ages and skill levels.
Volunteers do more than just teach the fundamentals of the game - they also stress building self-esteem, education, and leadership; providing a positive environment in which kids can live up to their full potential.
To sign-up for the Fremont Junior Giants, contact Junior Giants Commissioner Ronda Terra at (510) 574-2025 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Kids and volunteers of all ages are encouraged to join this free, fun, and positive program! League play starts July 13.
Sign-ups for the Union City Junior Giants are available starting May 14 at the Kennedy Community Center, located at 1333 Decoto Road in Union City. For more information, contact Junior Giants Commissioner Jesus Garcia at (510) 675-5482 or email@example.com. League play starts July 9.
Junior Giants baseball is presented by Bank of America, and serves youth ages five through 18. To date, there are more than 13,000 youths participating in over 75 leagues, serving some 150 cities throughout Northern and Central California, Nevada, and Oregon. Volunteer coaches help teach baseball and character skills that stay with the children long after the last ball is thrown.
The Giants Community Fund, a nonprofit corporation, supports the players and volunteer coaches by providing all the bats, balls, jerseys, hats, gloves, and other equipment needed for baseball games. The Fund also conducts professional training sessions for coaches, and participants receive unique opportunities such as clinics, festivals, Giants tickets, and special scholarships and awards.
