Twenty-five years of scholarships
Hayward's Hispanic Community Affairs Council (HCAC) proudly invites the public to join their Twenty-fifth Annual Scholarships Awards event slated for Thursday, May 3 at the Chabot Performing Arts Center.
Since 1982, HCAC has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships to more than 1200 individuals. This Silver Anniversary dinner marks the Council's first dinner affair. Interest and support have created the need for a larger venue. "More than 200 students applied this year," said Carmen Guerrero, chair of the scholarship committee. "They are evaluated based on academic achievement, financial need and a commitment by the student to give back to their community in some way after achieving education and career goals."
HCAC is especially proud that 100 percent of all monies raised goes into scholarship awards. All staff members serve as volunteers.
