Safeway and Milpitas join to offer 24 hour 'lifestyle' shopping
Friday, the 13th was a lucky day for Milpitas. Last week shoppers gathered for a first look at the new Safeway store which officially opened its doors that morning at 8 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the grand opening.
This newest Safeway, located at 555 E. Calaveras Boulevard, is called a "Lifestyle Store" offering new departments and expanded selection for shoppers. To mark the occasion, Santa Clara Supervisor Peter McHugh, Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves, Milpitas Vice-Mayor Robert Livengood, Milpitas Councilmembers Althea Polanski and Debbie Giordano joined Safeway's Northern California Division Vice President of Retail Operations Bernard Hardy at the ceremony.
As part of the ceremony, Safeway presented a contribution to the Boys and Girls Club of Milpitas and the Milpitas High School band which added lively music to the event.
The new store's "Lifestyle" format includes an inviting dˇcor and a warm ambiance that highlights the high-quality fresh products and proprietary brands Safeway offers. "It's been a rewarding experience to follow the construction process of the new store," said Bernard Hardy, Safeway Vice President of Retail Operations. "This store is the realization of a lot of hard work by a lot of people, and we are very excited to be able to provide the residents of Milpitas with a new Safeway store that provides an unparalleled shopping experience with attractive and unique departments," added Hardy.
"Safeway is dedicated to helping community-based organizations throughout our operating areas," said Safeway spokesperson Jennifer Webber. "Our support of the Boys and Girls Club of Milpitas and the Milpitas High School band are some of the many ways Safeway is involved in the community.
This new store, which will be open 24 hours, has approximately 39,000 square feet of sales space and boasts several specialty departments, making it a one-stop shopping experience for customers.
