March 27, 2007 > Compost giveaway for Fremont residents Compost giveaway for Fremont residents Fremont residents will line up to collect two free bags of compost during the 12th annual Compost Giveaway sponsored by Allied Waste Services of Alameda County and the City of Fremont. This popular event will be held on Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to noon, while supplies last. The program is a "thank you" for those who participate in Fremont's residential organics collection program. The yard waste and food scraps residents set out in their green waste carts each week is turned into rich, clean, bagged compost for lawns and gardens. The drive-through pick up station will be at the same location as last year: the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) parking lot, near I-880 and south Fremont Boulevard. Participants must enter off Grimmer Boulevard. NUMMI's generous support allows Allied Waste and the City to offer this event with minimal traffic congestion. Free compost is limited to Fremont residents with curbside organics service. Recipients must bring their February, March or April 2007 Allied Waste bill to the Compost Giveaway as proof of program participation.
