Public hearing with Assembly Member Alberto Torrico
State Assembly Member Alberto Torrico (D-Newark) will chair a public hearing on Friday, March 24, to explore innovative technologies that can conserve energy and lower costs. The public is invited to attend this gathering, entitled, The Greening of California's Public Buildings: Moving California toward greater sustainability.
The hearing will include state and local officials who will highlight policies and projects designed to promote green building and reduce energy consumption throughout the state. Speakers include representatives from the Office of the State Architect/Green Building Initiative; California Energy Commission; Alameda County General Services Agency; Ohlone College; Finelite, Inc.; Re Think Development; and PG&E, among others.
"California has the best scientific minds in the country and we can lead the way to lower energy consumption by investing in and promoting new technologies like the kind we will hear about at the hearing," Torrico said. He has introduced AB 527 to ensure that a plan for newly developed technology is implemented by 2009 to bring energy efficiency to state-operated facilities.
