Letter to the Editor
As the owner of the building located at 37419 Fremont Boulevard, in the Centerville District of Fremont, this is a request for you to inspect the buildings on the property of the Center Theater, located next door, to determine if they are in compliance with the city's building codes and safety regulations. Clearly, there are cooking exposures in newly attached frame construction. The property appears to be an increased fire and safety hazard to both the families living there and to the structures and occupants in adjacent buildings.
It is difficult for us to believe that the buildings behind the theater were constructed in conformance to city's codes and are being maintained in compliance with such codes; they are such an eyesore to our community. There appears to be more and more people living in these buildings and the noise and shouting that sometimes comes from those "hanging around" behind the theater is becoming more and more alarming to the tenants of our building. Our tenants include two youth groups consisting of young girls between the ages of 11 and 21 years, for which we are particularly concerned.
The members of our board and the members of Alameda Masonic Lodge, our principal tenant, have done what we can to comply with the laws and regulations of the City during the approximately 96 years we have been in our present location. We want to be good citizens of the City, and feel that we are. We only expect our neighbors to do the same and to maintain their property in accordance with local regulations.
